"Having just completed my year-long work placement within the School of Tourism and Hospitality, I am now in my final year studying Events Management. Throughout my placement year I was involved in planning and supervising overseas field trips for lower years and organised the Chinese New Year events on campus. I gained excellent experience which contributed to me securing a six-week summer placement at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The highlights of the course for me have been running my own event and attending the field trips. We have been lucky enough to go to Amsterdam to experience Museum Night, as well as going to Prague to meet with Prague Event Solutions, who gave us a good insight into the events industry. All of this has shown how the theory we learn in class can be applied to real-life situations.
The best advice I can give to prospective students is to throw yourself into every opportunity. The lecturers will send out regular updates of upcoming event opportunities. Getting involved with this really helped improve my knowledge and confidence, while making new contacts within the events industry. I even got to walk a reindeer at a Christmas event!
The University is in a great location and has a really relaxed atmosphere. The lecturers have an open-door policy, so as long as they are around, they are more than happy for you to pop in and have a chat."
