Graduate profile - Carline James
IT Business Analyst, Allianz Insurance

"The computing course at Plymouth offered a great blend of topics, giving a really good broad set of skills from statistics to programming.  I liked the fact that as you progressed you could tailor the modules you were studying to the things you were interested in.  Also, there was a strong emphasis on the value of a work placement which I knew would be important after university.

For my placement I spent 13 months with Allianz Insurance in Guildford.  From this I was offered a job with them upon graduation.  It’s great to be able to bring back the skills you gain on placement, come back in your final year and deliver a project showing that you’re very employable.

I am now working for Allianz as an IT Business Analyst in the commercial lines team.  My day to day role involves supporting the business with their requirements.  I have been given a lot of responsibility from day one and many varied opportunities to get involved with.  There is a great graduate community (26 of us this year) and at the start of the graduate scheme we were all brought together to get to know each other. Every day is different and the variety of projects is great.

The computing course at Plymouth has provided me with a lot of the core techniques I need in my work at Allianz as well as improving my writing style and presentation skills. There are also some fantastic lecturers on the course who really get you thinking and challenge you throughout.  They were always accessible either via email or by phone.

Life as a student at Plymouth is fantastic and now I’ve finished I’m going to miss it.  I had a great four years."
