Illustrator branches out into publishing

Kate Mowbray talks about her placement as a Publishing Assistant with BBC History Magazine.

While studying the BA (Hons) Illustration, Kate Mowbray did a placement as a Publishing Assistant with BBC History Magazine.

"I wanted to do something different from illustration to widen my skillset. So I worked with the publishing, production, design and editing teams of the BBC History Magazine

My specific role focused on design. I started off gently and by the end was editing pieces that would appear in the magazine.

My skills in using software such as InDesign rocketed with having to use it all the time and I was able to gain an insight into a whole range of different jobs within the magazine industry. It opened my eyes to how things work outside of University, and what I may be doing in the future."
