Illustration success on both sides of the Atlantic

Mark Smith shares his success stories as a freelance illustrator.

"This course couldn’t have been better in the way it has prepared me for a life as a professional illustrator. It has an ethos of individual creative experimentation combined with enterprising initiative, while the academics are extremely knowledgeable and totally committed to their work.

I’ve received numerous commissions from around the world, including jobs for American Airlines' in-flight magazine, The Mail on Sunday and the Australian edition of Woman's Weekly.

Perhaps the pinnacle was when I had two pieces of work featured in the prestigious 'Graduate Showcase' of Computer Arts magazine. This is an annual supplement that attracts hundreds of entries from around the globe, but features only a handful of the best. I was one of just 16 selected to appear in the Illustration and 2D section.

The lecturers on the course are all extremely successful illustrators in their own right, with worldwide acclaim, and they know the business inside out. I lay all of my achievements squarely on their doorstep so if you really want to be an illustrator, it’s all here for you. Just turn up with endless enthusiasm, an open mind and a willingness to learn and you can be confident that they’ll point you in the right direction for a successful career."

Mark was interviewed in June 2012.
