Marc Partridge, a Plymouth History BA and MRes graduate, recently published a study of policing in Plymouth in the 19th Century based on his MRes research entitled 'Policing in Plymouth, Devonport and Stonehouse'.
Marc notes that ‘What started as a piece of academic work grew into the first published in-depth study into the birth of policing in Plymouth. Discussions of accountability, duty and local politics show how different police forces acted within a single conurbation. A mixture of biography, prosopography, statistics and anecdotes from an extensive list of primary sources, were used to create this historiography of the police forces of the greater Plymouth district.’
