My time at Plymouth gave me so much more than a degree. The depth and variety of the course allowed me to explore and advance in two things I have always loved, reading and writing. Excellent teaching armed me with important skills in analysis, reflection and written communication. Whilst getting involved with wider University life, volunteer projects and helping to run societies, gave me a chance to demonstrate things like team work and develop a true sense of self.
As a disabled student I found it particularly refreshing to be in an environment that was supportive enough to provide me with such a rich and diverse experience.
Since graduating I have worked mainly in the not-for-profit sector, in areas such as advice and support, fundraising and PR. I have now returned to University to study for a master’s in social work. All this has been made possible thanks to the skills and confidence I gained during my time studying English at Plymouth.
