Iain Borden is a Architectural Historian, Urban Commentator and lecturer at the @bartlettarchucl. He explores ways in which urban and architectural spaces are experienced, perceived and re-used by people after the point of construction. This teaches us about how the adaptive nature of buildings and cities are dependent on their users. In particular, he looks at how skateboarders adopt modern cities as their own pleasure ground, creating a culture with its own architecture, Clothes, attitudes, and social benefits. What issues do we face that threaten public space that make these kinds of experiences place possible? How can we design responsively to these issues?
