Spatial and Interior Designer - Product Designer - Designer Maker - 3D Design
Our teaching team would normally like to meet you face-to-face for an interview. If you find it difficult to attend an interview, you may be able to email an e-folio, possibly followed by a telephone interview.
What’s a good portfolio?
Please bring a careful selection of your design/art work, showing as broad a range as possible. Remember we are looking for your creative ability, so show how you generated ideas (including sketches, sketchbooks and drawings), how you’ve developed projects, and your final outcomes. The majority of 3D work should be as photos – only bring 3D objects if they are small and portable. A1, A2 or A3 sizes are fine and manageable.
Who will interview you?
The interview is very informal, and we want to know you as much as we want you to know us. One of the teaching team will be there, plus a first or second year student, to help you feel more at ease.
What might we talk about?
Three years is a long time for you to invest, so we will ask you questions to make sure we are the right course for you, and we’d like you to ask us questions too – so bring some questions with you. There is time for you to meet our current students and see the studios and facilities.
What questions we will ask you?
We want you to feel at ease during your interview, so we thought it might help if you focused on your idea generation, creative practice and communication techniques. We would also like you to prepare answers for the following types of questions:
- What is your favourite design object, design scheme, building, etc, and why?
- Who is your favourite designer, and why?
- Why do you want to study three dimensional design?
If you are a good applicant, we would not keep you waiting for our decision. At the end of your interview, we will normally let you know whether we are offering you a place on our course. If we invite you to join us, we will either offer you a place with the condition that you achieve your expected grades, or an unconditional offer if you are an exceptional candidate or already possess the required grades.
Ask, ask and ask
We don’t want the wrong student, and you don’t want to join the wrong course, so please email us with any questions and we will do our best to answer them. Please contact: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
