Entry requirements
Given the nature of the placement element, the fact that you will be working in an emergency department environment, and the point of academic entry into the course we are only able to take medical students who have successfully completed their third or fourth year.
The opportunity to intercalate is open to any medical student supported by their medical school – you must have written permission to intercalate from your medical school and show evidence via transcript that you have completed clinical skills and research to the level normally expected of a fourth year undergraduate medical student. If you want to find out more about the opportunity to pursue a BSc (Hons) Urgent and Emergency Care course at the University of Plymouth please email the Professional Development Unit at pduadmissions@plymouth.ac.uk.
Please refer to our person specification.
Extended entry requirements

UK/EU

A relevant degree with honours or an equivalent professional qualification. Other qualifications accompanied by substantial experience in an appropriate field may also be considered. Non-standard applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

International

Please view the country specific pages for further information regarding the equivalency of your degree. International applicants will be required to provide evidence of their English language ability, for example by achieving an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in each element) or equivalent, see our English language requirements. Pre-sessional English language courses are available if you do not meet these requirements.

We welcome applicants with international qualifications. To view other accepted qualifications please refer to our tariff glossary.

All applicants

You must provide a satisfactory reference from a senior health care practitioner or line manager with knowledge of your work and experience, and who is able to support your suitability to participate in the programme.

Plus, fulfil one of the following two criteria:

  a. Be in possession of an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or

  b. Be in possession of an equivalent medical degree from a World Health Organization recognised institution

Please note that if the medical degree or other qualification was not taught in the English language, a score of 5.5 in all elements of the British Council IELTS test or equivalent (e.g. Test of English as a Foreign Language) will usually be required.
