Entry requirements
Given the nature of the placement element in a critical care environment, and the point of academic entry into the programme, we only consider medical students who have successfully completed (or anticipate successful completion) of the third or fourth year of their primary medical degree.
All applicants will be required to provide written permission to intercalate from their medical school and evidence (via transcript) confirming completion of relevant clinical skills and research, to the level normally expected of a fourth year undergraduate medical student. We appreciate some of this evidence may not be available when a student initially applies; however, it will be required to secure a provisional offer if successful through the recruitment process.
Please refer to our person specification
If you want to find out more about the opportunity to pursue an Intercalated BSc (Hons) in Critical Care with Plymouth, please email the Professional Development Unit at pduadmissions@plymouth.ac.uk.
Extended entry requirements

UK/EU

A relevant degree with honours or an equivalent professional qualification. Other qualifications accompanied by substantial experience in an appropriate field may also be considered. Non-standard applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

International

Please view the country specific pages for further information regarding the equivalency of your degree. International applicants will be required to provide evidence of their English language ability, for example by achieving an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in each element) or equivalent, see our English language requirements. Pre-sessional English language courses are available if you do not meet these requirements.

We welcome applicants with international qualifications. To view other accepted qualifications please refer to our tariff glossary.

All applicants

You must provide a satisfactory reference from a senior health care practitioner or line manager with knowledge of your work and experience, and who is able to support your suitability to participate in the programme.

Plus, fulfil one of the following two criteria:

  a. Be in possession of an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or

  b. Be in possession of an equivalent medical degree from a World Health Organization recognised institution

Please note that if the medical degree or other qualification was not taught in the English language, a score of 5.5 in all elements of the British Council IELTS test or equivalent (e.g. Test of English as a Foreign Language) will usually be required.
