Unite Foundation

The Unite Foundation is a charitable trust specialising in transforming the lives of young people by enabling access to higher education and raising aspirations. It was established in 2012 by Unite Students, the UK’s leading developer and manager of student accommodation, which remains the majority donor, supported by its business partners.

The aims are to:

  • provide scholarships for young people from a care or estranged background; supporting them to access and succeed in university
  • provide employment and work experience opportunities that help them fully realise their potential on graduating
  • support research that addresses the education inequalities experienced by care leavers and estranged young people.

Scholarship Scheme

Each year the Unite Foundation offers scholarships to support young people from a care or estranged background studying for an undergraduate degree with Plymouth University. We are proud to have been one of the first ten universities nationally to offer these scholarships, and see the scheme grow since then.

This scholarship scheme provides free accommodation to undergraduate students for three years of their undergraduate study.

There is an age limit of 25 years or under for these scholarships and the emphasis is placed on supporting those young people for whom access to a secure home is of particular significance; care leavers or young people estranged from their families.

Care Leaver Service

The Unite Foundation Scholarship Scheme complements perfectly the work of Plymouth University’s dedicated Care Leavers Service who provide exemplary support and guidance to our students, and identify and enable a variety of similar opportunities to help individuals enhance their university experience and realise their ambitions.
