Become an E-Mentor

An E-Mentor is a Plymouth graduate who is happy to give a little time to help a student or a recent graduate by sharing their professional experiences and expertise online. The relationship between a mentor and a current student is very much focused on the students’ professional and personal development.

An E-Mentor can answer a specific question about their role or company, review a CV or application, ‘sign-post’ relevant resources or contacts or simply share their career experiences.

E-Mentors: you can activate this tab and choose how many students you wish to e-mentor as well as update how and what type of mentoring you would like to do e.g. offer advice or review CVs/applications. You can also pause this system if you would like and resume it at another time.

I was in one of the first introduced to Plymouth Connect and was a big fan. It felt like the perfect connection between students looking for jobs and those with already established careers. I studied mechanical engineering and was able to connect with a former student who was working for Mercedes Benz. He was always extremely open to my questions and helped me to gain an insight into what I needed to get a similar role.

Simone Coletta - E-Mentee

I used Plymouth Connect whilst searching for jobs before I graduated. I was easily able to find mentors in my field who were able to answer questions and share their experiences to help my search. These interactions gave me confidence in my skills, knowledge and ability that encouraged me to start my graduate job search. The support from these mentors and the wider Careers & Employability team helped me greatly through my time at The University of Plymouth and I was able to start a graduate role three days after I had finished my studies.

Lauren Fidler - E-Mentee

My experience at Plymouth was fulfilling and full of amazing challenge and opportunity. I hope that by sharing my experience I can contribute to other students achieving their dreams. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and don’t be afraid to take the first step. Always strive to be a leader but first make sure you are already a good team member with good listening skills.

Tania Xin Tang - E-Mentor

The University of Plymouth was a comfortable and very student-friendly that gave many opportunities for my development. Although I know I still have a lot to learn, Plymouth gave the foundations to develop my skills. The lecturers are very supportive and it was always good to know I could approach them for advice or support.
