Pride Month 2020

Pride month this year is going to be a little different; whilst parades, marches and parties may not happen due to Covid-19 that doesn't mean that the University of Plymouth cannot celebrate all that our LGBT+ staff and students bring to our University community. Throughout June, the University will be celebrating all aspects of the LGBT+ community both in the University, in the city and across the world through our virtual celebration of Pride.

As well as the wealth of information on this page, we encourage you to get in touch with us, the LGBTQ+ Student society and the Staff LGBT+ Forum for more celebrations throughout Pride month:

Pride toolkit

The LGBT+ Staff Forum at the University of Plymouth have put together a toolkit full of pride essentials covering podcasts, books, films and local resources. The toolkit is there to support everyone in learning about LGBT+ identities and cultures and is an ever-growing library of resources for you to use.

We welcome contributions to the toolkit from our LGBT+ staff and students and will try and include as many as possible so if you have a suggestion email

Access the toolkit here

Our Pride flag

During LGBT+ History Month in February 2020, the University raised it's very own custom-made Pride flag for the first time which will now fly on campus 365 days of the year as a signal of our commitment to the LGBT+ equality.

"No member of our community should ever have to hide any aspect of who they are and this flag will serve as a reminder to everyone that diversity isn’t just tolerated here but truly celebrated in all that we do." - Andrew Grace, University Equality and Diversity Manager

You can read the full article on the raising of our Pride flag on the Plymouth Live website.

Pride of Plymouth

As part of Pride Month celebrations, local textile artist Hannah Wisdom created a stunning portrayal of Smeaton's Tower using textiles to help celebrate the LGBT+ community in Plymouth. As well as being a textile artist, Hannah is a professional accreditation co-ordinator in the Faculty of Health and was delighted to have her print featured in the national textile magazine, 'Be Creative', in their June edition.
