Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Our staff and students form a diverse learning community and we are proud to support them in being themselves by celebrating how diversity enriches all of our lives.

In line with University policy, we do not tolerate bullying or harassment and we are continually working on how best to support everyone in being the best they can be.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDIC)

EDIC is made up of academic staff, professional services staff and students. The committee has oversight of a wide range of policies and activities to ensure the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences remains a happy and inclusive place to work at or study in.

Recent successes from the committee include:

  • The launch of a student conference, "Speak Up '18" focusing on diversity and wellbeing on practice placement
  • The implementation of a new faculty induction process for staff
  • The creation of an annual faculty equality survey to monitor staff happiness and career development
  • Planning and marketing of "Allied Voices"; The Faculty's first event to mark International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

Anyone working or studying in the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences can become a member of EDIC, just email andrew.grace@plymouth.ac.uk to join or visit our new team site.

β€œThe calendar offers week-by-week highlights of cultural and religious events that are important to staff across the institution. It is a really good reminder of the diversity that exists here in the University and the value we attach to an environment where all colleagues and students are respected regardless of their values or beliefs.”

Professor Bridie Kent
Executive Dean, Faculty of Health & Human Sciences
