The inaugural Times Higher Education '100 under 50' is a new annual ranking, listing the world’s best 100 universities under the age of 50. Twenty UK universities made it into the league table with Plymouth in the UK top 10 joining the likes of Warwick, York and Lancaster. This further builds on Plymouth University’s standing as one of the top 350 (318th) universities in the prestigious overall World University Rankings.

The prestigious Times Higher World Universities Rankings are an annual ‘who’s who’ of the most elite institutions in the world including the likes of Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Stanford. As one of only 45 UK universities to make the top 350, Plymouth was ranked at 318 in 2011.

Plymouth University has world-leading reputations in the research areas of marine and coastal, technology, computer science, environmental, economic and social sustainability, creative and cultural economies, health, nursing and biomedicine, and pedagogic research/innovation. The University has leapt 15 places to join the top 50 UK universities in research performance; results showing that overall, 80% of our research is judged as being of international repute.

News: Plymouth University turns competition green with envy after major sustainability success
The annual People & Planet Green League table ranked Plymouth University in the top spot for 2010 - number one out of 133 universities. The University also retains the accolade of being the league's top overall performer since it began in 2007. Plymouth University is committed to the sustainability agenda, our ambition is to be a customer focused, socially responsible organisation, demonstrating sustainability in our activities and ensuring our graduates are aware of economic, environmental, social and ethical issues, including the importance of social enterprise, community engagement and volunteering.

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE MARK
Plymouth is the first university in the world to be awarded the Social Enterprise Mark in recognition of its long-standing history of support for the sector. The award was announced by the Social Enterprise Mark Company, which provides the only officially-defined registration for social enterprise. The University had to undergo independent assessment against a range of criteria and will meet representatives from the organisation in January to formally accept the Mark.
