UNIVERSITY AWARDED £1M TO CREATE WORLD’S FIRST INTELLIGENT BUILDING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Plymouth University has been awarded nearly £1m to create the world’s first integrated building management and information technology system capable of remotely monitoring and controlling equipment. The system will be able to detect movement inside buildings, the usage of equipment and adjust heating and lighting.
The HEFCE funded project is expected to run until March 2013 and will see the University installing new smart meters. It estimates that the system will provide 60% of its 2015 carbon reduction targets, and will lay the foundations for a carbon neutral campus by 2030.
