Qualifications & background
PhD

Teaching interests
I am a lecturer in marketing with a background in numeric subjects to support my research in the areas of management, marketing and consumer behaviour.  My main areas of lecturing have been in marketing, consumer behaviour and research methodology but I have also delivered lectures and seminars to Masters and research degree students on the impacts of political unrest and terrorism on the risk perceptions of the public (with a particular focus on travel to the Middle East).

Research interests
I was inspired by my PhD supervisor to become a 'researchaholic' and I chose a university career because I am curious and passionate about such a wide area of topics it would take several life times to satisfy them all! I am also passionate about transferring this hunger for learning to our new students coming through the educational system. My research profile may seem very wide but there are themes there - just look for them - such as building a bridge between developed and developing countries as I try to explain the issues found in many developing countries and the perceptions that people in developed countries have of them. Within a limited area of subjects, I call myself diverse and I truly enjoy interdisciplinary research, am interested in how people perceive things, how they think and how they make their decisions. My research has also had a Middle Eastern theme running through it, looking at consumer behaviour, risk perceptions, impacts, and political impediments….and who knows what other areas are to come yet :)•

I am currently collecting data for three different projects (what is that they say about women being able to multi-task?).  The first one is an extension of a joint project “is there more than risk of sunburn in the Middle East” which has already led to a couple of publications.  The second project looks at “poverty as an attraction in 21 century”.  The third project is one I am doing in conjunction with Prof John Fletcher at Bournemouth University (my old PhD supervisor) for the UNWTO which is to construct a framework that will help integrate the tourism industry into national emergency plans.

I have published papers and book chapters in these areas and have more to come in the pipeline.
