Research interests

The volcanology and petrology of zoned peralkaline pyroclastic rocks from Longonot volcano, Central Kenya (in collaboration with British Geological Survey Overseas Division & The Open University).


The petrogenesis of peralkaline trachyte magmas (in collaboration with Open University).


Shallow level magmatic processes and the nature of the high level plumbing system on Mount Etna, Sicily (in collaboration with University College, London & Luton University).


Roof and sidewall magmatic processes in the Dartmoor Granite.

1995 - 1999 Teressa Giles - Volcanic emissions and distant palaeoenvironmental impacts in New Zealand. University of Plymouth (DevR) Research Studentship. Joint supervisor with Dr. R.M. Newnham (Geographical Sciences) and Dr. J. Grattan (University of Wales, Aberystwyth). Ph.D. awarded November 1999.
