Research interests

The Brain Research & Imaging Centre (BRIC) is a state-of-the-art human neuroscience research facility, that is home to cutting-edge laboratories and equipment for the investigation of human brain function. In addition to a 3-Tesla MRI Laboratory (Siemens Prisma) are: the Brain Stimulation Laboratory with TMS, TUS and TES; the Electroencephalography Laboratory with high-density, mobile and MR compatible EEG; the Cognition and Behaviour Laboratory with Cantab and a range of physical cognition tests; the Motor Control Laboratory with Motek GRAIL immersive motor assessment system; the Pain and Neuromodulation Laboratory with a range of sensory and algesia models in addition to a CO2 model of anxiety; the Computational Modelling Suite with facilities for computational neuroscience and multimodal data processing. BRIC supports a diverse range of basic and applied research, from exploring the mechanisms underlying sensation, perception, memory, movement and decision making to characterising neurological disorders such as Parkinson's, Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke, Hepatic Encephalopathy, Chronic Pain and Addiction.

Research in my laboratory employs a multimodal, interdisciplinary approach to explore neuronal network activity in health and disease. I lead and collaborate on diverse research programmes investigating: motor control, movement disorders, hepatic encephalopathy, mechanisms of brain stimulation and hyperbaric neuroscience. I am very fortunate to be part of several teams of collaborative researchers, whose commitment to open science facilitates a wide exchange of knowledge.
