EDUCATION

2007–2011 A PhD in Marine Science. Fully funded by a Marine Institute Scholarship with support from the Devon Wildlife Trust. Submission within 3 years in October 2011 included 1 year maternity leave. Thesis title: The value of marine conservation. This thesis is presented as a compendium of research papers that explores the relationship between the conceptual understanding of ecosystem services, their ecological, economic and social value and the practical application of this approach to inform decision making in a case study area.

2002-2003 Master of Science in Coastal and Ocean Policy. Awarded pass with distinction. University of Plymouth.

March 1999 RSA/Cambridge English Language Teaching to Adults. Cheltenham International Language Centre.

1995-1999 Bachelor of Science in Marine Geography. Awarded second-class honours, division one. University of Wales, Cardiff.

EMPLOYMENT

February 2012 – June 2012 – Post-Doctoral Research Assistant for the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom. Responsible for delivering Defra contract MB0106 Marine Conservation Zone Evidence Review.

2011–to date -  Post-Doctoral Research Fellow and Associate Lecturer. The Marine Institute at the University of Plymouth. Duties include project management, project development and lecturing on undergraduate modules in Marine Conservation.

2007–2011 – Part time lecturer and Researcher. University of Plymouth. Duties include temporary contracts to teach on modules in Marine Conservation, Economics of the Marine Environment and Marine Planning. Supervising project work for both undergraduate and master's level students. Delivering research commitments to the Defra MB101 project. Marine Institute representative on the Finding Sanctuary local planning group

2006–2007 Conservation Officer (Marine Policy), Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT). Duties included project management of the INTERREG IIIb Emergency Response to Oil, Chemical and Inert Pollution from Shipping (EROCIPS) project. Providing marine conservation expertise to DWT. Developing DWT policies and strategies relating to human impacts on marine biodiversity. Developing and delivering projects. Leading on forming and maintaining relationships with key partners in the marine sector.

2004–2006 Cycleau Project Officer. INTERREG IIIb Cycleau project. Devon Wildlife Trust. Duties included Developing techniques and work programmes that deliver transferable methodologies for awareness raising and stakeholder participation in land and water management for the benefit of wildlife in a river catchment.

1999–2004 English as a Foreign Language Teacher. Contracts in the UK, South Korea and Spain.

1993-1999 Youth Worker and Outdoor Education Instructor. South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre. Gloucestershire County Council.
