Background:

After I graduated, I was employed by AC & T Ltd., a research and consultancy SME based in Plymouth.  During my eleven years there, I coordinated projects and conducted research based around human health and well-being associated with the indoor environment.  I also developed tools for the comparison of the energy output of renewable energy systems and fossil fuel based technology. 

In January 2010, I joined the Centre for Excellence in Professional Placement Learning (Ceppl) at the University of Plymouth as a research assistant.  My role centred around the evaluation of teaching and learning of schemes funded by the Ceppl and how these schemes linked to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

After the centre closed in December 2010, I was employed by the Faculty of Health.  I evaluated attrition in student nursing in Plymouth  and conducted a systematic literature review of international placement-related attrition.  The project included a continuing evaluation of how Placement Development Teams have supported nursing students in clinical placements.  Following this, I was part of a project to evaluate the perceptions of staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts about their engagement in OpenCourseWare (free online access to MIT course materials).

Since 1st October 2011, I have been part of the NIHR-SDO Interface project team, which is a collaboration between Plymouth University, the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and Devon & Cornwall Constabulary.  The overall aim of the project is:

 To examine and explore current practice relating to the management of individuals with enduring moderate to severe mental health needs where they interface with the Criminal Justice System in order to improve joint inter-agency working, practice and service provision to enhance mental health outcomes.

This project is funded by the NIHR Health Service & Delivery Research programme (project number 10/1011/67)
