Qualifications & background

Diplôme de Langue et Civilisation Françaises, awarded from the Sorbonne in 1978 (with Distinction)

BA (Hons) English 2:1, awarded in 1981 from the University of York

Institute of Linguists Diploma in Spanish, awarded in 1988 (with Distinction)

MA TESOL, awarded in 1990 from the Institute of Education, University of London

Dip TEFLA RSA/UCLES (Distinction in practical), awarded in 1991

Certificate in Online Education and Training, awarded in 1996 from the Institute of Education, University of London

Before coming to work at the University of Plymouth in 2004, Ricky spent one year working freelance in Gothenburg, Sweden. Prior to that she was teaching English for Academic Purposes and Study Skills at London Metropolitan University for four years, and training English teachers at Waltham Forest College, where she worked for 14 years as a teacher trainer, EFL teacher and modern languages teacher.

Apart from working in the UK and Sweden, Ricky has spent one year in Guangzhou, southern China, where she co-ordinated development in English language testing on a British Council funded project, and six years in Spain, where she was a teacher and Director of Studies.
