Role
Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), Faculty of Social Science and Business.  The role involves a variety of aspects related to the development of new and the review of existing undergarduate programmes within the faculty.  As such, the Associate Dean works closely with the Dean and the Heads of School in maintaing academic quality and standards and also developing, in conjunction with the Faculty Business Manager and the Head of Marketing and Admissions, addtional aspects of the faculty's porfolio of courses.  I chair the faculty's Undergraduate learning and Teaching Committee (CULT). Liasion is also maintained with partner colleges through the UPC faculty and also with groups involved with widening participation.  Recently a number of cross-faculty linkages have been established and there is an ongoing role here in maintaining good collaborative practice.  The Associate Dean (L & T) is involved in numerous University committees which support all aspects of learning and teaching including e-learning. I am a member of the University Appeals Board and Students Complaints committee. A member of University external examiners sub-committee. Elected staff representative from Faculty of Social Science and Business on Academic Board and nominated member of the Board of Governors of University of Plymouth.

Appointed to the former Plymouth Polytechnic in 1969 as a lecturer in geography and geology. Instrumental in the expansion of geography and environmental science as major disciplines within the former Polytechnic.

Fieldwork teaching in South Devon and Western Ireland in relation to coastal processes and in Crete where the themes are more closely allied to landscape evolution and coastal zone management
