Research interests

Applications of adaptive and evolutionary search and optimisation techniques and neural computing in structural engineering.

The main focus of this research is on modelling design activities at the conceptual stage of the design process. The aim is to develop decision support tools to aid the designer in the decision making process and to promote collaborative design between various parties involved in the design and construction process.

Another area of interest is innovative and effective exploration and visualisation search and solution spaces using evolutionary computing. One PhD has been successfully completed in this area.

Masonry structures / Structural Design

This research has focused to develop new methodologies and techniques, using conventional and AI techniques for better understanding of the behaviour of masonry structures. Two PhDs have been completed and another PhD just started.

Evaluation of the effects of shock, vibration and blast loading and waves on structures and health monitoring of structures using conventional and neural computing methods.
