Role
Marketing Assistant for UK Student Recruitment, in the External Relations & Communication Services Directorate at Plymouth University. 

Qualifications & background
BA (Hons) Graphic Communication with Typography Matthew commenced his role as Marketing Assistant in June 2010. Since graduating in 2009 from Plymouth University, he has continued on in the Higher Education sector, working as Schools and Colleges Liaison Assistant in 2009, and more recently as Web Information Officer for the Faculty of Education. Following the University's rebrand, Matthew became a Brand Champion, providing advice and guidance to staff, students and external partners on the use of the new brand across the broad range of communications employed by, and on behalf of, the University. He is also the lead member for the Directorate's Enterprise Enabler group.

Current projects include:

  • Postgraduate web pages
    Developing and updating the University's corporate web pages for postgraduate study and research, including the scoping of future development requirements for the website.
  • Postgraduate Roadshow
    Development of the on-campus Postgraduate Roadshow event, designed to inform current students and staff of the opportunities available to them in postgraduate and professional study or research.
  • Postgraduate and Professional Open Evening
    Preparations for and running of the postgraduate open evening. The improvement of awareness and attendance at the event, and the communications relating to it.

Recent projects include:

  • Postgraduate e-CRM pilot
    Working with the Postgraduate Marketing Manager, Faculty of Art and Faculty of Science and Technology to pilot an electronic customer relationship management programme to improve enquirer aftercare, and enquiry to application conversion rates.
  • Induction web pages
    Updating and developing the University's corporate web pages for the student induction web presence.
  • Postgraduate campaign
    Aiding in the creation and implementation of the new branded postgraduate campaign through photography, design, print and online advertising. Briefing in and management for creation of new artwork for promotional banner stands, including those for additional areas including the Graduate School.
  • Postgraduate Bookmark
    Briefing in and managing the creation of a supplementary bookmark promoting the University's upcoming postgraduate open evenings, to be distributed with the new Postgraduate and Professional Prospectus 2012.
  • Schools & Colleges Liaison support
    Support for the Schools & Colleges Liaison office in the preparation and running of the University open day. Delivery of presentations, events and activities during summer school residential visits.

Additional information
Matthew is a graduate from Plymouth University, whose interests and expertise lie in the creative and marketing industry. He has a strong background, through his work, in branding both at a corporate level and on a smaller, more personal scale. He is particularly interested in wayfinding solutions, CRM strategy, and rebranding. Matthew is also a web designer, undertaking freelance work with various clients.
