Role
Lesley Simmonds works as a Lecturer on the Criminology and Criminal Justice programme.  Lesley is also the Programme Manager for the MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies. 

Qualifications & background

Lesley completed her BSc (Hons) in Social Policy and Criminal Justice at the University of Plymouth. She has since worked as a Lecturer on the Community Justice (Probation Studies) programme, as a part-time Lecturer on a number of criminal justice modules, and as a researcher on a range of projects. Her research includes focusing upon the community response to crime; crime prevention/community safety projects; restorative justice; issues relating to the Crime and Disorder Audit process and evaluating the work of the Needle Exchange Service.


Lesley continued to develop her research on the community response to crime by focusing specifically on the work that Victim Support undertakes. Lesley gained a studentship from the University of Plymouth in order to pursue this. She was awarded her PhD, Matching Provision to Needs: The Example of Victim Support, in 2005.

Teaching interests
Lesley Simmonds teaches at each stage of the Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies degree programme.  At stage one, Lesley teaches 'Introduction to the Criminal Justice Process'; at stage two, 'Youth Justice, Restorative Justice and Victims of Crime and at stage three, 'Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies Work Based Learning'.  Lesley also teaches a module on Diversity and the Criminal Justice System, on the MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies programme.  Lesley supervises a number of PhD students who are exploring criminological issues.
