Role
My substantive role is Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, a post that I have held for seventeen years. I am currently Professor of Accounting, prior to that Head of Economics, Finance and Accounting, having previously been  seconded to work with the Dean (Special Projects) on a number of process and systems review projects for the University. Before that I held the position of Associate Dean and Head of the Graduate Business School. 

Qualifications & background

I graduated from University of London, Royal Holloway College, in 1973 with a BSc in Mathematics, Statistics and Computing, quickly following this with a postgraduate certificate in education from University of London Garnett College, one of only four University colleges specialising in teaching programmes for FE and HE lecturers.

A change of direction led me into the business world, first qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1978 and then moving to UCL Plc as financial accountant and financial systems support consultant.

I returned to higher education in 1986, joining Polytechnic South West in 1988.

I have been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales since 1978.

Member of the Association of Business Schools Postgraduate Steering Group

 


Teaching interests
My teaching interests include financial management and management accounting, financial decision support and planning systems and knowledge management.

Recent external examinerships include De Montfort University, Middlesex University and Southampton Institute

 


Research interests

My research interests include developments in HE financial management systems and processes, systems support for financial decision making and human tutor emulation in the teaching of introductory accounting.
