Widening Participation Lead
Programme Lead BMBS with Foundation (Year 0)

Qualifications

BSc (Hons) Biology,
MA Learning and Teaching,
PhD Cell biology
Dr Louise Alldridge joined Peninsula Medical School in 2013. She is currently Lead for Widening Participation and Programme Lead for BMBS with Foundation Year. On arrival at Peninsula, Louise led the development and implementation of a new holistic strategy to widen participation of the most underrepresented groups in Medicine. The strategy was based on a ‘primary to practice’ vision, starting by building aspirations in primary school children, sustaining them and breaking down barriers (including academic, information access but also social and cultural) throughout secondary school and finally providing alternative entry routes into Medicine.
Prior to this Louise was employed at Griffith University School of Medicine, in Australia, where she was Academic Lead for Equity and Selection, Assessment and Indigenous Health. Here Louise led a strategy with local Indigenous Elders to widen participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students in Medicine. She also worked closely with Refugees, providing ways for them to study medicine.
She has been involved in undergraduate Medical, Veterinary and Nursing education since 1987 at Essex University, Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University.
She obtained her  Bachelor of Science with honors from the University of Exeter in 1985 and  her PhD in Cell Biology from The University of Essex in 1992. Her research record of accomplishment is mainly based in translational research into Endotoxemia, Leukaemia and more recently Breast Cancer with over 30 peer-reviewed publications. Louise is an External Examiner both in UK and overseas, an External on Programme Approval Panels and is on peer review committees for several international journals. She is now developing a research portfolio in medical education and Widening Participation.
