PhD Research Student
The title of my project is "Dynamics of Suspended Particles in Seasonally Stratified Coastal Seas".
The principle objective with this work is to discover more of the relationship between turbulence and particulates in the shallow shelf and coastal environments. The region of interest lies in the Western English Channel, approximately 10km south of Plymouth and is known as the L4 station. L4 is operated by Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) as part of the Western Channel Observatory.
A suite of instrumentation, including a Microstructure Profiler, Holographic Imaging System, Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers, the LISST and towed instrumentation platforms will all be utilised for the collection of data. One of the project aims is to produce an enhanced coupled hydrodynamic-ecosystem model for the region, making use of the General Ocean Turbulence model (GOTM) and the European Regional Seas Ecosystem Model (ERSEM).
My supervisory team are:
Dr. Alex Nimmo-Smith (Director of Studies, UoP)
Dr. Ricardo Torres (PML)
Dr. Phil Hosegood (UoP)
Professor David Huntley (UoP)
The project is in collaboration with PML, and is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
I am an affiliate member of the Coastal Processes Research Group (CPRG) and the Shelf Seas Oceanography and Meteorology Research Group (SSOMRG), both at the University of Plymouth.
