Role

As Senior Technician in Hydrography and Oceanography, I am responsible for the hydrographic survey equipment within the School of Marine Science and Engineering (MSE). This equipment includes a variety of Global Positioning Systems (GPS's), echo sounders, side scan sonar, magnetometers and a range of conventional land survey equipment. This equipment is used for teaching and research in a wide variety of disciplines throughout MSE. I also look after the hydrography computing facility situated in Fitzroy 307 and act as Web Master, designing and maintaining the Geomatics Research Group website (http://www.research.plymouth.ac.uk/geomatics/).

I support academic staff with practical work in hydrography, as well as running land and boat based survey practicals for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Teaching interests

1.The effects of Meteorological conditions on Land and Hydrographic Survey.

2.Digital terain modelling, particularly modelling of bathymetric data.

3.Practical Hydrographic Surveying, including GPS and traditional land surveying, single and multi-beam echo sounding, side scan sonar (SSS) and sub-seabed profiling.

4.Electronics and interfacing of electronic equipment.
