24-hour Squashathon in aid of BBC Sport Relief

27 May 2004

Staff from the University of Plymouth will be participating in a 24-hour Squashathon in aid of BBC Sport Relief on 4–5 June.

Sport Relief was set up by Comic Relief and BBC Sport to tackle poverty and disadvantage, both in the UK and internationally. The very first Sport Relief in July 2002 brought the world of sport together under one banner for the first time, raising a truly impressive £14.4 million. This time around, Sport Relief is aiming to do even better. The vision is to harness the power, passion and goodness of sport to help change the world.

The university Squashathon will be played continuously over 24 hours with 12 members of staff participating. Staff hope to raise money through sponsorship and donations on the day. Squashathon organiser Dave Furniss said: "Staff are really enthusiastic about taking part in the event. I’m not sure how enthusiastic they will be at 3am in the morning though!!"

The event kicks off at midday on Friday 4 June from 12 noon at the university squash courts on the Plymouth campus and any support for the event will be gratefully received.
