The Faculty of Science is one of a only handful in the UK to achieve excellent ratings* from the Higher Education Council for England (HEFCE) for every area of its undergraduate work. This achievement, along with an RAE 5 in our research, means that the Faculty has much to offer both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Faculty brings together a number of areas of expertise which are grouped under four broad schools:

We offer a variety of entry pathways to ensure that any prospective student with academic ability can benefit from a degree in science.

The Faculty hosts world-class research institutes, including the Centre for Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience as well as running internationally recognised research groups and centres throughout the schools. We also work in partnership with neighbouring research organisations such as the Plymouth Marine Sciences Partnership and the Peninsula Medical School.

Students in the Faculty have access to state-of-the-art technology and benefit from courses that are continually updated in line with industry requirements. As a result, our graduates are well equipped for careers in industry, teaching and research, and are highly regarded by employers.

Our city centre location, with close proximity to sea and countryside, provides superb opportunities for study and leisure.

*or QAA point scores of 22 out of 24, which the Sunday Times regards as excellent
