FILM: Decasia: The State of Decay

Decasia: The State of Decay (2002)
Dir. Bill Morrison, Music by Michael Gordon

Our screen heritage programme continues with a special 10th Anniversary screening of Bill Morrison’s Decasia from a 35mm print. A mesmerising collage of found archival footage, most of it in advanced stages of decay. The footage is slowed to allow a greater appreciation of the effect and character of the visual damage to the original materials.

“Watching this remarkable film is quite an
experience…it’s almost like watching some
cinematic primordial soup out of which images
are born,flicker briefly, then die.”
