Television and Broadcast Services

 
As a department within Information and Communication Systems, Television and Broadcast Services provide a professional Television and Satellite Broadcasting facility to support teaching, learning and research in the University.
Services provided include live television broadcasting, video production, facilities hire and television training.
The service is actively involved in developing distance learning materials and technology for European funded research projects.
Staff are responsible for producing the award winning mrcs.TV medical training series.

Studio
Based at the Hoe Centre the Studio offers a range of broadcast television facilities.
The 200 sq meter studio is equipped with three cameras supported by comprehensive vision and sound facilities.
Recording on Betacam SP and editing on a three machine Betacam SP suite.
Graphics facilities comprise of Inscriber and PhotoShop systems.

Satellite
At the University's main campus the service is responsible for operating the European Space Agency Satellite Uplink TDS4 and is currently broadcasting live interactive programmes on Eutelsat W2 in digital MPEG2 format.
The coverage area or footprint of W2 includes all of the Western European countries and extends as far east as Russia, north to Scandinavia and south to North Africa.
Reception sites in most areas of the footprint require a 1.2m diameter antenna whilst those toward the edges will need larger antennas of 1.5m.
