South West Film and Television Archive

The South West Film and Television Archive (SWFTA) is a registered charity dedicated to the finding, keeping and sharing of the region’s unique moving image heritage. It is the largest regional film archive in England holding approximately 127 thousand films/tapes (and still growing). It has a large collection of television material from South West broadcasters – mainly news documentaries and current affairs. In addition it holds a wealth of professional and amateur film related to the region.

The archive provides a wonderful window on the region, its history, culture, people and their lives. As such, it has much to offer: from those tracing their family or community history; to professional researchers; to production and broadcast companies looking for unique images. All of the life of the South West is reflected in SWFTA’s holdings.

Working in partnership with the University, SWFTA aims to improve access to its unique collection. If you would like to help support this unique asset though donation, sponsorship or by joining the volunteer programme - or access and use the archive - please contact SWFTA on 01752 202650 or info@swfta.org.uk.
