A Research Assistant is required to work for a period of six months within i-DAT to develop software to support the display of information and graphics to interpretation screens across the campus and over the internet. The post involves a close relationship with The Centre for Sustainable Futures and will require the development of media platforms to support aspects of the Centre’s delivery of information and knowledge to a wide audience.

Your responsibilities will include: designing and developing an appropriate system using robust software and networking technologies; documenting the technical attributes of software to support technology transfer; testing the software from a variety of user perspectives, networks and interpretation media; and training i-DAT and CSF staff in the use of the software.

Applications are invited from people with a good Honours degree in a computing subject, who have some industrial experience in the development of serverside and networked technologies.

Knowledge of databases, server and clientside technologies, including some graphic skills and interactive systems (Flash, JAVA), an ability to programme in open source web based technologies (PHP, MySQL) plus Flash and interactive interface technologies and knowledge of AJAX and progressive open source software platforms, understanding of video and animation, an understanding how to design, develop and manage interactive web based systems is also required. The postholder should understand interface principles for networked applications and have enthusiasm and confidence with technologies, and able to work autonomously but mix well with a team.
