Berth a ship in Sydney - by simulator

The School of Earth, Ocean and Environmental Sciences is equipped with a state-of-the-art Ship Simulator which allows students to experience the atmosphere of a ship’s bridge as it navigates the seas and harbours of the world.

Carefully-planned exercises in locations such as the English Channel, Sydney Harbour and Plymouth Sound itself, guide students through the challenge of learning coastal navigation and collision avoidance.

Although this is only a ‘simulation’ it is surprising how real everything feels. It is easy to forget that you are actually in a building in Plymouth with Sydney Harbour Bridge looming ahead (photo left) and you are trying to avoid that big passenger ship that is heading out to sea!
