Welcome to the Earthern Architecture web pages

The Centre for Earthen Architecture (CEA) at the University of Plymouth exists:

* to continue to develop a better understanding of the performance of earth as a
building material to aid appropriate conservation techniques for historic
architecture and support the use of earth as a contemporary, sustainable,
construction material
* to help raise public awareness of earth as a building material
* to support the development of skills and knowledge across the construction industry.

To achieve these aims CEA:

* undertakes research projects and consultancy
* develops and runs courses on new earth building and conservation of existing
earthen architecture
* organise outreach activities including conferences, exhibitions, talks and
schools’ mud days
* Maintains a documentation centre together with national and international networks.
