Background:
I first trained in general nursing at St George's, London, specialising in operating theatres (including two years in South Africa) and neurosurgery. This was followed by Mental Health Nurse training and specialisation in Community Mental Health Nursing in Bristol. I’ve worked in education since 1986, first at the Avon and Gloucestershire College of Health (latterly UWE), followed by three years as a lecturer at University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff, these latter posts included brief secondments in Bucharest and Athens, finally moving to the University of Plymouth in 1996. I Moved to Devon in 1996 and Dartmoor in 1999. I am married with grown up children.

Professional interests:
My professional interests include the specialist areas of Community Mental Health, Psychotherapy and Counselling, Psychodrama, Personal Construct Theory and Repertory Grid Technique and general mental health policy, legislation and service development. My published work includes book chapters on community psychiatric nursing and mental health nursing, a review of the effectiveness of psychodrama psychotherapy and critical reflections on the use of the Repertory Grid Technique. From 2005-2008 I was a member of the NICE Guideline Development Group for Prostate Cancer (Guideline published Feb 2008).
