CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

CPD reflects Plymouth University's vision for community and regional engagement through the development of high specification products serving legal, social, professional, political and business and management niche markets. CPD will provide a tailored, life-through learner journey through blended, part-time and open educational resource materials.

APEL AND WORK-BASED LEARNING

APEL refers to both Certificated and Experiential Prior Learning and all Faculties are compliant with University regulations pertaining to admission via this route. Work Based Learning is a form of professional learning often blended with a problem based learning style. Learners build upon work-related experiences by making their learning more explicit. We aim to produce reflective practitioners and the flexible, real world nature of our provision is ideally suited for work-based learners.

ONLINE AND BLENDED LEARNING DELIVERY

The University is committed to increasing the proportion of blended and distance learning across our programmes and is working in a variety of areas to develop new offerings. Our in-house solutions harness the wealth of technical skills and IT structures within the University, as well as the extensive expertise of internal demonstrators, enablers and facilitators. We enhance the blended learning experience by building on strong external links to provide real world input and support.

STRETCHING PROGRAMMES OF STUDY OVER LONGER PERIODS

University regulations facilitate extension to learning periods and flexible programme duration provides an opportunity to intersperse the accumulation of credit with periods in paid employment.

COMPRESSING PROGRAMMES OF STUDY INTO SHORTER PERIODS

We provide a range of options at programme and module level to enable learners to compress study periods and accelerate rates of completion. Stretching and compression can be seen as complementary strategies enabling learners to align credit accumulation to their personal circumstances.

FLEXIBLE COLLABORATIVE DELIVERY WITH EXTERNAL PARTNERS

Working collaboratively with our partner colleges to ensure the quality of the University’s awards and the preparedness of learners for transfer to the University.

INTEGRATION WITH FULL TIME PROGRAMMES

There is capacity within the University’s infrastructure to provide opportunities for part-time students to enrol on full-time programmes of study. We are working on streamlining the university’s regulations and approval processes to create maximum flexibility in the construction of programmes of study and awards.

BESPOKE FLEXIBLE PROGRAMMES

The University is responding to market demand for part-time programmes delivered in non-core hours. It will combine this strategy with on-line and blended solutions to minimise the impact of regional population dispersal and transport infrastructure.
