The Local Government Chronicle Elections Centre at the University of Plymouth was established in 1985. Its directors are Professor Colin Rallings and Professor Michael Thrasher. Currently there are four other staff members and five ESRC-funded research students.

The Aims of the Centre

The Centre aims to compile, analyse and publish information relating to all aspects of electoral politics in Britain. It has built a substantial reputation for the quality and reliability of its work in both the academic and applied fields.  The Centre's research was 'flagged' for its quality by both the 1996 and 2001 Research Assessment Exercises (RAE).

In 2007 Rallings and Thrasher received the Political Studies Association of the UK's Communication award 'in recognition of their crucial work on elections over a sustained period of time'.  Photos of the occasion can be seen by clicking here.
